When a four-year-old refers to his orthotist as “my friend Dean,” when the braces are always right, and when adjustments are needed they’re made promptly, you know you’re in the right place.”

Founder, Certified Orthotist and Prosthetist

Dean Woolcock, Founder and CPO of Spartan Orthotics & ProstheticsDean has been serving the Greater Lansing area since 2003 after completing his training at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago. He is certified in both orthotic and prosthetic disciplines through the American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics, Inc (ABC). In addition to this certification, Dean is a member of the ABC, the International Society of Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO), and the Association of Children’s Prosthetic-Orthotic Clinics (ACPOC). He is involved in all levels of patient care and has specialty training in both scoliosis and cranial molded orthoses.

He found his calling one summer doing an internship at the University of Michigan’s Orthotics and Prosthetics Center. At this internship, he encountered a young boy, and soccer player, who was requesting a prosthetic foot that wouldn’t absorb all the force of the ball when he kicked it. He couldn’t feel the force on his leg when he hit the ball, but he wanted to. He wanted to feel the full force, the victorious satisfaction of kicking the ball into the net. Dean realized then the magic at play in this field. In pursuing a career in orthotics and prosthetics, he would be able to help other patients, such as the boy he worked with, to surpass their goals, no matter their physical limitations. As a result, Dean shifted careers from teaching anatomy and physiology, biology and Spanish, which he had done for eight years, to focusing on orthotics and prosthetics.

Dean enjoys spending time with friends and family, traveling, playing with his kids and volunteering in his community.
